TOUR DESCRIPTION

Barcelona is considered by many to be the most exciting and vibrant city in Europe.

It has also reclaimed its place in history as a center of art and architecture. You

might begin at the Plaça de Catalunya. The plaza marks the start of the Passeig de

Gràcia: the most stylish street in Barcelona, lined with boutique shops and art

galleries.

You will continue to the Ramblas, Barcelona’s historic promenade. Here you will see

outdoor cafes, flower stands, exotic birds and equally colorful street performers. Just

off the Ramblas, you will find orderly rows of vegetables, fragrant fresh herbs,

various Spanish cheeses, and candy at La Boqueria, Barcelona’s market—considered

to be one of the best markets in the world.

You will cross the Ramblas into the Old City (Ciutat Vella) and the Gothic Quarter.

The medieval Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) rests on the ancient Roman city of

Barcino. You will see remains of the Roman city at the Museu d’Història de la

Ciutat. You will enter the medieval cathedral and dig into its layers of architectural

history. The lovely cloister is filled with palm trees and geese.

For a view of the Gothic Quarter, you can take the elevator up to the overlook in the cathedral.
